Burgic Wins Opening Match at John Newcombe Pro Challenge

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -
Baylor women's tennis player Ema Burgic tallied a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Rachel Janssen (United States) in her opening match of the John Newcombe Women's Pro Challenge on Sunday.

The senior's win pushes her through to the second round of the 32-person qualifying draw. She will need two more wins to qualify for the 32-person main draw.

HIGHLIGHTS
? The $50,000 ITF Pro Circuit event is Burgic's third pro event of the fall.
? After Sunday's win, she is 7-2 in pro events this fall.

WHAT'S NEXT
Burgic will continue her run in the qualifying draw on Monday as she faces six-time tour winner Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic. Currently ranked No. 704, Vaidisova has been ranked as high as No. 7 in the world and has also made the semifinals at both the French and Australian Opens.
