DES MOINES, Iowa - Freshman Olicia Williams won the 800-meter run to lead Baylor's track and field team at the USA Outdoor Championships on Friday at Drake Stadium.
Williams cruised to a time of 2:06.35 to outrace seven other athletes and qualify for the Pan Am Junior Championships in Medellin, Colombia, Aug. 23-25.
At the senior level, junior Blake Heriot finished 15th in the 400-meter semifinals in 46.94.
Senior Christina Holland took 18th in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.01.
BU signee, Tim Holmes, was third on Friday in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles at the junior level in 52.26 to make the finals. He will run in the finals at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, fellow BU commit Trayvon Bromell won the 100-meter dash on Thursday in 10.47.
Former Baylor athlete Tiffany Townsend took eighth in her heat of the 100 meters with a time of 11.19 to be 15th overall in the 100-meter semifinals.
On Saturday, Ashley Field and Heriot will take part in the 200-meter dash. Fields will open her run in the event at 3:35 p.m., while Heriot starts his action at 2:40 p.m.
