PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Baylor women's tennis junior Ema Burgic advanced to the second round of the Riviera/ITA All-American singles main draw with a straight-set win on Thursday at the Riviera Tennis Center.
Seeded fifth in the tournament and ranked No. 6 in the country, Burgic earned a victory against senior Hanna Mar of Duke, 7-5, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Burgic and teammate Victoria Kisialeva faltered in first-round doubles action. The BU tandem, ranked No. 5 and seeded fourth, automatically advanced to the round of 16 with a bye in first-round play. In the second round, the BU duo lost to No. 20 Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady of UCLA, 8-4.

Burgic will face 13th-ranked Kristie Ahn of Stanford Friday at 12:45 p.m. CT. Burgic and Kisialeva will play a consolation match on Friday at 11 a.m. CT against Utah's 18th-ranked duo of Paige Miles and Tereza Bekerovo.
