WACO, Texas- Baylor's 41st-ranked men's tennis team extended its win streak to four matches with its 5-2 victory over No. 58 Maryland at the Hurd Tennis Center on a windy Tuesday afternoon.

The Bears got on the scoreboard first with two wins in doubles. Seniors Julian Bley and Kike Grangeiro walked off the court first with an 8-5 victory on court three against Maryland's Andy Magee and Jesse Kiuru. The victory was the tandem's third straight and raised their season record to 5-4. The Terps' Tommy Laine and Vlad Stefan, playing on court two, evened the match at one doubles victory each with an 8-6 win over Marko Krickovic and Robert Verzaal. The Bears had to go to a tiebreak before staking claim to the doubles point. BU's Roberto Maytin and Mate Zsiga upset 36th-ranked Maros Horny and John Collins, 9-8. With the match tied 8-8 and the tiebreak tied at 5-5, Zsiga hit a volley to Collins' body then Horny hit a service receive long to give BU the 7-5 tiebreak win. The victory marked the duo's first win over a ranked opponent and raised their overall record to 10-4 and their dual-match mark to 8-3.

Baylor got singles victories at the top court and the bottom three courts to secure its eighth win of the season. The Bears raised their season record to 8-5 while Maryland drops to 3-8 on the year. The Terps are coached by former Baylor assistant coach Kyle Spencer.

Bley, playing at No. 6, made quick work of Maryland's Magee on court six, winning 6-1, 6-0. Baylor then gained two more points before the Terps got on the scoreboard. No. 28 Zsiga, playing at No. 1, downed No. 91 Horny, 6-3, 7-5 and Grangeiro clinched the match at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Laine, giving him five straight victories. Maryland then scored their two points when No. 122 Stefan downed 125th-ranked Maytin, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0, and Sergio Wyss defeated Diego Galeano, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-2) on court three. Baylor secured its fifth point when Verzaal downed Collins on court four in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5). The victory marked Verzaal's fifth straight win.

" To be honest we did not compete well today in all the spots," said head coach Matt Knoll. "Our doubles team did a great job down the stretch and of course in singles Bley was great once again. We were up and down too much in certain spots and we need to be better down the stretch."

The Bears now hit the road to Southern California for two matches during Baylor's spring break. They will play No. 54 Purdue at 12 p.m. (CDT) on Monday, March 12 in Los Angeles, followed by a match at fourth-ranked UCLA on Wednesday, March 14 at 2 p.m. (CDT).
