Feb. 14, 2012 DALLAS - Baylor's men's tennis team swept singles to cruise to a 6-1 win over UT-Arlington in Dallas on Tuesday night at Las Colinas Country Club.
Baylor claimed two-set victories in five of six singles matches with Mate Zsiga, Roberto Maytin, Marko Krickovic, Kike Grangeiro and Diego Galeano all posting two-set wins. Robert Verzaal took his match to a third-set super tiebreak and prevailed, 10-3, to claim the victory.
The Mavericks won their lone point of the evening when they posted two doubles wins. The Bears claimed victory at No. 2 doubles when Krickovic and Verzaal posted an 8-4 win over UTA's Yauheni Yakaulev and David Subirats.
Baylor will begin play on Friday at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., at the Boar's Head Tennis Club. The 16-team tournament is set to run Friday through Monday, Feb. 17-20. IN the tournament's first round, the Bears will take on ninth-ranked Stanford on Friday at 5:30 p.m. (CST).
