Complete Big 12 Release
IRVING, Texas - The Baylor soccer team was first among the Big 12's ten institutions with 14 student-athletes earning a place on the Academic All-Big 12 first team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The Bears had a total of 15 players recognized by the conference (14 first-team members and one second-team honoree) to finish second to Iowa State's 18 total selections. BU's contingent of 15 ranks second in program history to last season's 16-person tally, while the 14 first-team selections are a program best.
Senior Dana Larsen (Biochemistry) and sophomore Alexa Wilde (Biomedical Engineering) were two of seven conference athletes nominated with a 4.0 GPA. Larsen is a three-time first-team honoree, along with teammates Carlie Davis (Sr., International Studies) and Lisa Sliwinski (Sr., Health Science Studies).
In addition, Caitlin Fennegan, Michelle Hagen, Taylor Heatherly, Vic Hoffman, Justine Hovden, Natalie Huggins, Alex Klein, Michelle Kloss, Kat Ludlow and Selby Polley, all earned first-team honors.
Heatherly (Jr., Secondary English), Hoffman (Jr., Film, Digital & Media), Klein (Jr., Health Science Studies), Ludlow (Jr., Health Science Studies), and Polley (Jr., Health Science Studies) recorded the honor for the second time.
Fennegan (Sr., Speech Pathology), Hagen (Sr., Biology), Hovden (So., Biology), Huggins (So., Biochemistry) and Kloss (So., Health Science Studies) were recognized for the first time.
Hanna Gilmore (Sr., Marketing and Entrepreneurship) earned a second-team accolade for the second straight year.
Across the league, a total of 79 student-athletes earned first-team recognition, while 20 individuals made up the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
