WACO, Texas - Baylor senior sprinter Tiffany Townsend, who recently completed her collegiate eligibility, will don a Team USA uniform at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, on Aug. 12-21.
At the games, Townsend is scheduled to run the 200 meters with the preliminary rounds beginning at 9:30 p.m. Central Time on Thursday, Aug. 18. She will also be considered for Team USA's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.
The Killeen, Texas, native, who capped her Baylor career with a school-record total of 17 All-America honors, has continued her success into the summer. Now running professionally for adidas, Townsend has collected four victories in six races overseas this summer.
Townsend started the summer with a victory in Zhukovsky, Russia, taking the 200 meters with a time of 22.89 at the Zhamensky Brothers Memorial meet. She followed that up with a third-place finish in her only 100-meter race of the summer at the 39th Meeting de Atletismo in Madrid, Spain.
Townsend then won her next three races, all at 200 meters, starting with a win in at the Reunion Internacional Ciudad de Barcelona in Spain with a time of 23.11. She took on the competition in Bottrop, Germany, next, turning in a time of 22.82 to win the International Athletics Gala before heading to Arzana, Italy. There, Townsend won the Terra Sarda International with a time of 22.88.
In her final race before the World University Games, Townsend took on some of the toughest competition in the world at the Diamond League meet in London, France. Battling world leader Shalonda Solomon and Diamond League points leader in the 200 meters, Bianca Knight, Townsend placed sixth with a time of 22.92.
