WACO, Texas - Headlined by two Big Monday contests, Baylor will play nine Big 12 Conference games on the ESPN family of networks plus another on CBS in 2012, the league announced Thursday. Six other games will be featured on the Big 12 Network, while the two remaining contests could be selected for TV in the near future.
All told, Baylor will play five games on Monday nights during the new 18-game round-robin format. The Bears, which have been ranked in each of the previous four seasons, have played 61 games on national television in the Scott Drew era, including 52 on the ESPN family of networks. Prior to Drew's arrival, Baylor had appeared on national television only five times in school history.
For the first time since 1996, Baylor and Texas A&M will meet in the conference opener for both schools as the Aggies visit Waco for a Jan. 2nd date on ESPNU. Following its home opener, Baylor will have back-to-back road games at Texas Tech (Jan. 7) and at Kansas State (Jan. 10).
Baylor returns home Jan. 14 to host Oklahoma State at 2 p.m. on ESPN2. Two days later, the Bears play the first of their two Big Monday contests when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to face Kansas on Jan. 16. Baylor then hosts Missouri for a 1 p.m. tip Jan. 21 on ESPN, followed by a Jan. 24 road contest at Oklahoma.
The Ferrell Center will be the host site for a CBS contest Jan. 28 against Texas; it marks the first time Baylor will play a regular-season game on CBS in program history.
February begins with consecutive road games at Texas A&M (Feb. 1) on ESPN2 and at Oklahoma State (Feb. 4) on the Big 12 Network. Kansas visits the Ferrell Center for a Feb. 8th contest, which will be aired on either ESPN or ESPN2. After traveling to Missouri (Feb. 11), the Bears return home for games against Iowa State (Feb. 13) and Kansas State (Feb. 18).
Baylor's second Big Monday game comes Feb. 20 against long-time rival Texas. The Bears' final two home games will be Feb. 25 against Oklahoma and Feb. 27 versus Texas Tech. Baylor closes its conference regular-season slate March 3 at Iowa State.
In March, the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship will continue to be televised on a variety of ESPN platforms including ESPN, ESPN2 and in regional syndication on the Big 12 Network. The 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 7-10, 2012, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
The Big 12 Network is in its fourth year, with games seen throughout the conference's geographic footprint and produced by ESPN Regional Television (ERT). It has also been distributed in numerous other markets, including New York, Chicago, Baltimore and Providence. Among all the televised games, most will be shown as part of ESPN Full Court and available on ESPN3.com.
Television information for the remainder of Baylor's 2011-12 schedule will be released at a later day. Fans interested in purchasing season tickets may call the Baylor Athletics Ticket Office at 254-710-1000 for more information.
