Complete NCAA Release 
INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of Bears, sophomore Roberto Maytin and senior John Peers, will represent the Baylor men's tennis team in the individual portion of the NCAA Tennis Championships later this month in Stanford Calif.
The NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Subcommittee made the announcement Wednesday that Peers (Melbourne, Australia) would be one of 48 at-large bids into the 64-man singles bracket. Peers will also team with Maytin (Valencia, Venezuela) as one of 21 at-large selections for the 32-team doubles field.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at the Taube Tennis Center, following the conclusion of the team championships (May 19-24) with Stanford University serving as the host school.
The individual selections come just a day after the Bears learned they would host first and second round action of the NCAA Team Championship, May 13-14, at the Baylor Tennis Center. For that team championship, the Bears are the fifth-seed squad.
Peers, who is currently ranked No. 19 in the country, is 29-10 overall and 17-5 in dual-match play. This will be the second time Peers has been in the singles competition, after dropping a first-round match last season while playing for Middle Tennessee. This year, Peers is 12-10 against nationally ranked foes with wins against 10th-ranked Bradley Klahn (Stanford), No. 18 Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech and the 28th-ranked Sekou Bangoura of Florida.
In past years, Baylor players have experienced tremendous success in the singles portion of the championships with Benjamin Becker winning the singles title in 2004 and Benedikt Dorsch claiming the top spot in 2005. In Matt Knoll's 15-year tenure as head coach, the Bears have had a singles participant in the NCAA Championships every year with the exception of 1997 and 2001.
For the doubles bracket, Peers and Maytin have been seeded as a No. 5-8 seed. It marks the first time that a Baylor doubles team has been seeded since Dorsch and Matija Zgaga were seeded No. 3 in 2005. As a top-eight national seed, Maytin and Peers automatically earn All-American status.
Currently as a team, the fifth-ranked Peers and Maytin are 30-5 overall and 17-2 in dual-match play with all of those matches coming at the top of the Baylor doubles lineup. The tandem is 14-4 on the year against ranked opponents with wins against the second-ranked tandem of Michael Shabaz and Drew Courtney of Virginia, the third-ranked Texas duo of Ed Corrie and Jean Andersen and the fourth-ranked Texas A&M pair of Austin Krajicek and Jeff Dadamo.
This will be the second straight year that Maytin has represented Baylor during the doubles portion of the championship. Last season, the sophomore teamed with Denes Lukacs to earn an invite into the field of 32, but the duo fell in first round action to the 19th-ranked Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy of North Carolina (6-3, 6-4). Peers also has experience in the doubles championships, participating in the 2009 tournament during his time at Middle Tennessee.
The fifth-ranked Bears will be back in action as a team Friday, May 13, as they host the opening round of the NCAA Team Championships. Baylor will take on Texas A&M Corpus-Christi at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to face the winner of the Texas Tech-Rice match. The second round contest is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, at 3 p.m.
