Brittney Griner Earns Big 12 Player of Week Honors

IRVING, TEXAS - Baylor's Brittney Griner was selected Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week by a media voting panel for games from Dec. 12-18. Griner was recognized for the second time this season and 14th week in her career while Oklahoma's Sharane Campbell picked up her first Freshman of the Week honor.

Brittney Griner scored a game-high 25 points, hauled down nine rebounds and blocked a season-high nine shots in No. 1 Baylor's 66-61 win over No. 2 Connecticut. The 6-8 junior set the Big 12 career blocked shots record, breaking Courtney Paris' (Oklahoma) mark of 446. Griner now has 451 blocks and moved up two spots to No. 4 on the NCAA all-time blocks list. She shot 60 percent (9-of-15) from the floor and was perfect from the free throw line with seven makes while adding a steal.

Sharane Campbell scored a career-high 19 points to lead Oklahoma to an 89-57 win over Ohio in the first game at the Duel in the Desert, played at UNLV's COX Pavilion. The 5-10 freshman shot perfectly in the first half, hitting on six field goals and two free throws for 14 points in nine minutes. The first-half point total eclipsed her previous career high of 13. She scored 11 points in the midst of a 15-2 run that increased OU's lead from 14-7 to 31-9 in three and one-half minutes. Campbell's only missed field goal came late in the second half and ended a streak of 13 consecutive makes dating back four games.
