TRINITY, Texas - Baylor men's golf senior Lorenzo Scotto and freshman Filippo Zucchetti will represent their native Italy at The Spirit Amateur Golf Championship. The world class amateur golf event will be held Nov. 2-5 at Whispering Pines Golf Club, site of the 2012 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship.
The event will feature 72 holes of best ball competition and includes five separate competitions: international team (combined best ball of the men's and women's teams), men's team, women's team, men's individual and women's individual. Gold, silver and bronze commemorative medals will be awarded to the top three places in each competition.
Scotto, a native of Pordenone, Italy, currently ranks third among Baylor golfers with a 72.56 scoring average and a 0.89 score vs. par. He has finished in the top 20 in all three events in which he's participated, including a 10th-place showing at the Rod Myers Invitational at the beginning of October.
Zucchetti, a true freshman from Massino Visconti, Italy, is a three-time member of the Italian Amateur National Team and represented Italy at the 2011 European Team Championship.
Established in 2001, The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship is a world class amateur golf event featuring 20 countries from six continents. Each country is represented by its two best men and two best women players. The Spirit, a biennial event alternating years with the World Amateur Team Championships, is hosted by the World Health & Golf Association, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to promoting amateur golf for the benefit of health related causes.
Camp Olympia, a nationally acclaimed youth camp located adjacent to Whispering Pines Golf Club, provides accommodations for all Spirit participants. Camp Olympia is themed as an international village where participants enjoy lodging, meals, and a variety of entertainment each evening.
