BURLINGTON, Iowa - One of only five teams to shoot par or better in the second round, the Baylor men's golf team is tied for fourth at 3-under Monday at Golfweek's Conference Challenge.

Baylor, which entered Monday's second round in a tie for third place, shot an even-par 288 and is one stroke behind Campbell and N.C. State for second place. Host Iowa continues to lead the field by a double-digit margin, holding a 19-stroke advantage. Iowa, Baylor and New Mexico are the only three schools to shoot par or better in both the first and second rounds. Baylor and New Mexico are nine strokes ahead of sixth-place Southeastern Louisiana (6-over 582).

Iowa's Vince India overtook teammate Chris Brant for the individual lead, shooting 8-under 136 through 36 holes. Nevada's Scott Smith and Iowa's Brad Hopfinger are tied for second at 7-under 137.

"Conditions were a little tough, but I liked the effort from our team today," head coach Greg Priest said. "I know for sure we have some veteran players in our lineup because we had a few players over par early in the round and they just hung in there to finish strong."

Baylor junior Lorenzo Scotto is tied for seventh at 4-under 140 after carding a second-round 71. Scotto was 3-under through 11 holes before back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 14 and 15 to finish the second round under-par. After a second-round 73, junior Joakim Mikkelsen is tied for 10th at 3-under 141.

"We have ourselves in position for a good finish, but we will need a solid round tomorrow in order for that to happen," Priest said."

Both Payne Gniewek and Ryan O'Rear are tied for 29th at 2-over 146. Gniewek carded his second consecutive round of 73, while O'Rear registered his first sub-par round of the tournament with a 1-under 71. Drew McGee finished the day 64th overall at 11-over 155.

The third and final round of Golfweek's Conference Challenge will begin at 8:30 a.m. CDT Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on www.golfstat.com.
