The Baylor soccer team (3-1-0) will return home for three-straight home games beginning with a pair this weekend. The Bears will welcome UTSA (3-1-0) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then face Houston (3-0-0) for a 1:00 p.m. showdown on Sunday at Betty Lou Mays Field.
"I think we learned quite a bit from last weekend that will make our team better," head coach Marci Jobson said. "This is going to be a tough weekend of games with two quality opponents coming in, but we are excited to be back on our home field and in front of our fans."
The Bears are coming off their first loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat at Arizona State on Aug. 29. Sophomore Hanna Gilmore is second in the Big 12 Conference in both points (nine) and goals (four). As a team, Baylor is leading the conference in goals (15) with a 3.75 average per game. The defense has also been stellar, ranking second in the Big 12 with three shutouts.
UTSA enters a 1-1 weekend that saw them fall to Texas 3-1, but come back to beat Houston Baptist at home, 2-1. The last time Baylor met UTSA was a 1-0 win overtime win at UTSA on Sept. 20, 2009. The Bears lead the all-time series, 3-0-1.
Houston, who has yet to surrender a goal this season, will face BU on Sunday following a matchup at TCU. The Cougars picked up road wins over Louisiana-Lafayette, 2-0 and McNeese State, 6-0 last weekend to remain perfect. The Bears and Cougars last met on Sept. 21, 2008, with BU pulling off a 1-0 win in Waco. Baylor has the overall series advantage with a 3-1 lead.
Friday will be Family Fun Night, as fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks for $20. Sunday, kids 12 and under will get in free.
