IRVING, Texas - For the second time in her career, sophomore Hanna Gilmore was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday. Gilmore won the award in the first week of the season in 2009, on Aug. 25.
Gilmore helped guide the Bears to a 7-0 victory over McNeese State on Sunday with two goals and an assist. The win, coupled with a 1-0 victory over Rice on Friday, put Baylor at 2-0-0, its best start to a season since 2007. In the McNeese State match, Gilmore had a hand in three straight goals, assisting on the Bears' second goal and scoring the next two. She leads the conference in points after the opening weekend with five.
Gilmore becomes the first player in program history to win the offensive award more than once. The last player to win a conference award more than once was Megan Sherrell, who won Big 12 Player of the Week twice in 2007.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, Aug. 27 as they host Houston Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
