ATHENS, Ga. - Lenka Broosova and Nina Secerbegovic will begin play in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Wednesday, May 26, while Broosova and Csilla Borsanyi will start doubles play on Thursday, May 27. The singles players are part of a 64-player field selected for the competition, while 32 doubles teams were chosen to compete. All matches will be played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
Broosova, seeded No. 5 for the competition, automatically earns All-America status for the second consecutive season with her top-16 seeding. The senior will take on Florida State's Lauren McCrelless at 12 p.m. Wednesday, who is unseeded and brings a record of 26-10, including an 11-8 mark against ranked opponents.
Broosova, on the other hand, enters the match with a 32-7 record, including an 18-6 mark against ranked opponents. In her last match, against fourth-ranked Hilary Barte of Stanford in the NCAA Team Quarterfinals, Broosova lost her first match in since April 9, a string of 13 matches.
Secerbegovic, who is unseeded in the tournament, enters ranked No. 20 accoring to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The sophomore will make her first appearance in the NCAA individual singles tournament, and will take on UCLA's sixth-seeded Yasmin Schnack at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Secerbegovic enters as the Baylor leader in wins this season with a 40-4 record, including a 14-3 mark against ranked opponents. She has won each of her last 12 matches, including all three of her NCAA tournament matches at the No. 2 position.
In doubles, the 11th-ranked duo of Broosova and Borsanyi is back in the field after making a run all the way to the NCAA Semifinals last season, before falling to California. The All-American pair is unseeded, and will face Cal Poly's Brittany Blalock and Suzie Matzenauer on Thursday, who are ranked 48th and enter with a record of 17-3 in dual matches.
Broosova and Borsanyi are coming off a 9-8 (7-4) loss to the second-ranked duo of Stanford's Hilary Barte and Lindsay Burdette, but had won 13 in a row prior to their NCAA Quarterfinal match last weekend. The Baylor pair features an overall record of 26-5, including 8-4 against ranked opponents.
In the singles tournament, action will run from the First Round on Wednesday, May 26 until the Finals on Monday, May 31 with one round each day.
