AUSTIN, Texas - In its fifth meet of the outdoor season, the Baylor track and field posted 10 season-bests and three event wins Saturday at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.
Trey Harts, a senior from Lake Charles, La., paced the Baylor sprinters with a title in the 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 20.57; the second-fastest in the Big 12 this season. Earlier in the day, Harts sprinted to a fourth place finish in the 100-meter dash in 10.40.
Sophomore Cate Westenhover picked up her first career 1500-meter title with a winning time of 4:32.94; more than four seconds faster than runner-up Pernilla Savestrand of UT-San Antonio. Dess Meek tallied Baylor's third title of the day clearing 5-09.25 on her first attempt to win the women's high jump. Meek's mark of 1.76-meters is third-best in the Big 12 this season.
Nick Lyons (javelin), Skylar White (discus), Tiffany Townsend (100-meters), Stephanie Morgan (800-meters), Gavyn Nero (800-meters) and Christina Holland (400-meter hurdles) all pick up runner-up finishes for Baylor. Holland's second place finish gave the freshman from San Antonio, Texas, her third top-three finish in four collegiate meets.
Baylor earned two top-10 finishes in the men's 400-meter dash. Marcus Boyd, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, finished fourth with a time of time of 45.69, nearly a second faster than the previous season-best mark for the Bears. Boyd's time also gives him the second-fastest time in the Big 12. Zwede Hewitt tallied his fastest 400-meter dash time of the season, finishing ninth, with a time of 46.38.
Baylor will next see action at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 14-16, in Columbia, Mo.
