AUSTIN, Texas - Baylor's track and field team will take the track for their final tuneup before the conference championships at the Texas Invite at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas on Saturday.
The Bears are coming off a spectacular weekend at the Drake Relays, winning five titles. On the men's side, Baylor dominated the sprint field, cruising to victory in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400-meter relays.
Senior Trey Harts and junior Marcus Boyd took a leg on all three relays, while senior Courtney Thomas and sophomore Whitney Prevost each ran on the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Senior Michael Liggins and sophomore Zwede Hewitt made up the other half of the 4x400 team that recorded a three-second victory over the field.
For the women, junior All-American Tiffany Townsend raced to a win in the 100-meter dash, then helped the 4x400-meter relay team to a victory to sweep the event. In the race, the women dropped seven seconds off their season best to fly up among the nation's best with eighth fastest time in the NCAA.
With Townsend running her first 4x400 of the outdoor season, the Lady Bears had season bests from Tiana Hood, Brittany Bruce and Diamond Richardson to shoot up the national rankings.
Meanwhile, in the field events, Skylar White produced another solid weekend, just missing her record in the shot put by one inch to place fourth, while also breaking the 160-foot barrier in the discus for the third straight week. DeAna Carson also got back to her All-American form in the long jump with a season-best leap of 20-07.
Events will get rolling in the field at 11:30 a.m., while action on the track will begin at 4 p.m. Live results can be found at www.BaylorBears.com.
