KANSAS CITY - Baylor head men's basketball coach Scott Drew has been named Big 12 Coach of the Year Wednesday by the Austin American-Statesman and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
In his seventh season as head coach, Drew guided the Bears to a 24-6 record and a tied for second place in the league standings at 11-5. Baylor, which was picked 10th in the preseason coaches poll, has been ranked for a school-record nine consecutive weeks in the AP Top 25 Poll. Baylor's 24 wins are tied for the second-most in school history.
Baylor, the No. 3 seed at this week's Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Championship, earned its first opening-round bye in the Big 12 era. The Bears will play the winner of No. 6 Texas and No. 11 Iowa State in the quarterfinals Thursday at approximately 8:30 p.m. CST on ESPN2.
