WACO, Texas (AP) - Kimetria Hayden scored 27 points to lead five players in double figures and No. 18 Baylor beat No. 17 Oklahoma State 80-69 on Saturday night.
"Nae-Nae has grown since she has been here," said Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey. "I hope she will take this film and say, `I want to do this every night and every day in practice.' If she does, she is going to make us better.' I thought you saw a kid that was really just a spark for us."
Brittney Griner scored 16, Morghan Medlock added 13 points, Shanay Washington had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Kelli Griffin scored 10 for Baylor (19-7, 6-6 Big 12).
Three Baylor freshmen - Hayden, Griner and Washington - accounted for 55 of the Lady Bears' 80 total points.
"We had patience tonight on the offensive end," Mulkey said. "We gave (Brittney) Griner looks and if we couldn't find her we didn't try to force it. We had wings flash from the offside, we had posts flash when they saw openings, we took great shots, we had great ball reversal. There was a little bit more poise out there tonight." Andrea Riley scored 38 for Oklahoma State (18-8, 6-6 Big 12) and Tegan Cunningham added 11. Riley has averaged 27.7 points against Baylor in the last three years and scored 43 in OSU's 78-65 win in Stillwater on Jan. 9.
Baylor led by as many as 14 in the first half, but Riley closed the period with three consecutive 3s to pull Oklahoma State within 42-33 at the break. Baylor made 16 of its 18 free throw attempts in the first half, while Oklahoma State was 2-for-2 from the line.
Riley opened the second half by scoring five consecutive points. Precious Robinson added one free throw to pull Oklahoma State within three, 42-39, with 17:24 left in the game. That was as close as OSU would get the rest of the game. Baylor eventually extended its lead to double figures, taking a 66-56 lead on two Medlock free throws with 5:28 remaining.
Early in the game, Baylor led 13-12 before going on an 11-0 run that included two baskets and two free throws by Hayden.
The Lady Bears now hit the road to take on Texas A&M in a Big Monday game, televised nationally on ESPN2. Tip is set for 8 p.m.
