Griner Repeats as Player of the Week

Brittney Griner was named by a media voting panel the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for the second straight week and the 10th time in her career. Oklahoma's Aaryn Ellenberg earned the league's Freshman of the Week honor. The players were honored for their performances in games from Nov. 30-Dec. 5.

Brittney Griner averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in Baylor's wins over #16 Notre Dame and Minnesota last week. She shot 48.5 percent (16-33) from the floor and hit 64.7 percent (11-17) from the free throw line. Griner posted her fifth and sixth consecutive 20-plus point games. Against Notre Dame, Griner poured in 21 points, hauled down eight rebounds and blocked four shots. She followed that with 22 points, six rebounds, a career high-tying four assists and three blocks against Minnesota.
On the season, Griner is the Big 12's leading scorer with 22.9 points per game and the league and nation's top shot blocker at 5.2 a contest. In addition, she averages 8.1 rebounds and 29.2 minutes an outing. With 873 career points to her credit, Griner needs to score just 127 more points to become the 28th Lady Bear to achieve the 1,000-point milestone.
