IRVING, Texas - Twelve members of the Baylor soccer team were named to the Academic All-Big 12 team, the Big 12 Conference announced Tuesday. Baylor's 12 student-athletes and 11 first-team members were the second-most by any school.
The Bears featured two of the conference's five perfect 4.00 GPA's, as Bethany Johnston (Jr., Biochemistry) and Dana Larsen (So., Biochemistry) were named to the first team for the second and first time, respectively.
In addition, Carlie Davis, Hannah Dismuke, Brittany Hunemuller, Lindsey Johnson, Lucy Quintana, Courtney Seelhorst, Lisa Sliwinski, Lotto Smith and Natalie Woodham all earned first-team honors. Allie Moran was named to the second team
Johnson (Sr., Marketing/Management) and Smith (Sr., Fashion Merchandising) each earned their third selections to the academic all-conference squad.
Dismuke (Jr., Entrepreneurship), Hunemuller (Jr., Accounting), Johnston, Moran (Sr., Pre-Physical Therapy), each earned their second selection to the academic team.
Davis (So., International Studies), Larsen, Seelhorst (Jr., Pre-Physical Therapy), Sliwinski (So., Pre-Med) and Woodham (Sr., Distribution Management) were named for the first time.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services, the soccer academic all-league squad consisted of 79 first team members combined with 22 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
