XC Competes at Big 12 Championships

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Baylor men's cross country team had its best team finish since 2006 with an eighth-place showing, while the BU women placed 10th at the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.

Oklahoma State captured its third Big 12 crown after placing four runners in the top five for a score of 19, the highest score in Big 12 history since Colorado's score of 16 in 2000. The Buffs had a runner-up in the men's race with 46 points, while Oklahoma placed third with a score of 61. Texas placed fourth (127) and Iowa State earned fifth place (133). Baylor totaled 234 points to finish eighth as a team.

Texas Tech earned the women's title with 44 points, followed by Colorado (53), Iowa State (79), Oklahoma State (90) and Texas (147). Tech and Colorado both boasted four student-athletes in the Top 15 finishers. The Baylor women totaled 247 points to finish 10th overall.

Senior Robbie Knorr led the Baylor men with a 31st-place finish, covering the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 20.87 seconds. Junior Brandon White was the second BU finisher, just four seconds behind Knorr in 35th place at 25:24.26. Fellow junior Brandon Reed was 61st at 26:11.45, junior Zac Flowers was 63rd at 26:17.82, and senior Ben Haby rounded out the top five in 68th at 26:26.94.

For the women, Cate Westenhover had the best overall finish, covering the 6,000-meter course in 21:24.61 to place 26th. Freshman Robyn Bennett had a good showing in her first conference championship meet, placing 30th at 21:30.47. Seniors Leigh Ann Ganzar and Katie Shaw were 62nd and 69th, respectively, at 22:09.94 and 22:21.63. Kristen Hanselka was next for Baylor in 74th with a time of 22:39.53.

The Bears will have one more chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships when they host the NCAA South Central Regional at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas, on Nov. 13. The men's race is slated to start at 10 a.m., while the women will follow at 11 a.m.
