STORY LINES
• Baylor will put its 13-game home win streak on the line when it hosts Oklahoma on Wed., Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. § Five of BU's first six league games are against teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25.
• Three Lady Bears are averaging double-digit scoring. Freshman post Brittney Griner leads the team with 19.4 points a game while senior Morghan Medlock tallies 12.0 and junior guard Melissa Jones is averaging 11.6.
• BU freshman post Brittney Griner became just the seventh female to dunk in a regular-season NCAA contest when she threw one down against Jacksonville State, Nov. 24. She is also a defensive threat as a shot blocker and alterer with her 88" wing span. Griner added two more dunks to her total against Texas State.
• As a team, Baylor ranks No. 1 nationally in blocks per game (7.9); No. 2 in scoring margin (28.3), rebound margin (+14.5) and field goal percentage (.520); No. 3 in field goal percentage defense (31.2) and No. 4 in 3-point field goal percentage defense (24.4).
• In 10 seasons under head coach Kim Mulkey, Baylor is 250-68 (.786), which ranks her No. 4 nationally in winning percentage. In addition, the Lady Bear program ranks No. 6 among the NCAA Division I's winningest teams over that span.
• Baylor's five starters, Kelli Griffin, Shanay Washington, Melissa Jones, Morghan Medlock and Brittney Griner are shooting a combined 53.0 percent (313-591) from the floor.
• With her dramatic improvement since the beginning of the season, Brittney Griner has become a National Player of the Year, Big 12 Player of the Year and All-America candidate.
• Brittney Griner blocks more shots per game than 319 of the 332 NCAA Division I schools and only 18 teams beside Baylor have blocked more shots than Griner.
• Griner recorded the program's first-ever triple-double with her 34 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocked shots against Oral Roberts.
• No. 23 Oklahoma State was Baylor's fourth ranked opponent this season and marked the beginning of a six-game stretch with five rated foes: No. 13 Oklahoma (Jan. 13), No. 11 Nebraska (Jan. 17), at Missouri (Jan. 23), No. 8 Texas A&M (Jan 27) and at No. 19 Texas (Jan. 31).
BAYLOR IN THE BIG 12
The Lady Bears are 127-82 (.608) in 14 years of Big 12 Conference regular-season action while head coach Kim Mulkey is 100-45 (.690) in 10 seasons of league play.
OKLAHOMA SOONERS
The 13th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners enter the contest with an 11-3 mark, 1-0 in Big 12 action. The Sooners opened Big 12 play with a 73-58 home win over Texas Tech.
Head coach Sherri Coale is in her 14th season along the Oklahoma sideline and owns a 297-135 mark.
The Sooners have four active players scoring in double digits. Junior point guard Danielle Robinson leads the way with 15.9 a contest and leads the team in assists with 76. She is followed by senior forward/guard Nyeshia Stevenson's 13.9 an outing. Junior post Avi Olajuwon manages 12.4 a contest and Amanda Thompson, a senior forward, scores 11.8 a game and is the squad's top rebounder at 9.3 a contest.
SERIES RECORD
Oklahoma leads the series 22-10 while BU head coach Kim Mulkey is 6-15 versus the Sooners, 3-6 in Waco.
FRESHMEN PRODUCING
All five of the team's freshmen are averaging 4.0 or more points a game. Brittney Griner leads the rookies with 19.4 a contest, Shanay Washington averages 7.1 points, Jordan Madden manages 6.6 a game, Kimetria Hayden scores 4.7 an outing and Mariah Chandler follows with 4.0 a contest.
All five average 9.3 or more minutes an outing, and two, Griner and Washington, are in the starting lineup.
CAN WE BE OF ASSISTANCE
Baylor players are dishing it out this season. In its 15 games, Baylor has collected assists on 258 of the team's 461 field goals made which accounts for assists on 56.0 percent of its shots.
Point guard Kelli Griffin (75) and Melissa Jones (44) account for 46.1 percent of Baylor's assists.
REBOUNDING EXCELLENCE
Baylor has outrebounded or equaled its opponent in 14 of 15 games this year and is averaging a Big 12 Conferenceleading 46.9 a contest. Tennessee, in the season opener, outrebounded BU, 42-39.
Freshman post Brittney Griner (9.1 rpg), senior forward Morghan Medlock (7.9 rpg) and junior guard Melissa Jones (6.6 rpg) are Baylor's top rebounders and combine to average 23.6 rebounds a game which equates to 46.9 percent of the squad's boards. The trio ranks No. 4, No. 6 and No. 15, respectively, among the Big 12 leaders.
