Sept. 19, 2009

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - The Baylor women's golf team will participate in its second event of the fall Sept. 21-23 at the University of Denver's Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate.

The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,483-yard Highlands Ranch Golf Club, which is located approximately 25 miles south of Denver. The three-day tournament will feature 18 holes; the first and second rounds will begin at 9 a.m. CT on Monday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 22, respectively. The final round Wednesday, Sept. 23, will begin with a shotgun start.

The 13-team tournament field includes host Denver, Iowa State, UALR, UC Davis, North Texas, New Mexico State, Illinois, Montana State, Wyoming, Northern Colorado and Columbia, as well as Big 12 rivals Iowa State and Nebraska.

This year marks Baylor's fourth consecutive trip to participate in the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate. The Lady Bears finished seventh in both 2006 and 2008, while turning in a second-place finish in 2007. In 2006, Allison Martin tied a school record for the lowest 18-hole score with a second-round 67.

All five Lady Bears from last week's Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic return to the lineup this week, along with the addition of junior Lene Hafsten-Morch in the fifth spot. The Lady Bears will be led by sophomore Jaclyn Jansen, who finished tied for eighth overall at 2-under 214. Senior Hannah Burke tallied her 21st career top-15 finish at the Ptarmigan, finishing 13th. Morgan Chambers and Chelsey Cothran round out Baylor's lineup; freshman Melanie White, who made her Baylor debut last week, will compete as an individual.

"I am looking forward to seeing what this lineup can do," Baylor head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "We had a good talk about our strengths and weaknesses and had some time to work on some of those things.

Last season, Hafsten-Morch competed in all 11 tournaments for the Lady Bears, carding a 77.48 stroke average through 33 rounds. She finished in the top 10 twice, the top 15 four times and the top 25 five times.

"The course at Highlands Ranch sets up great for us," Ferdon said. "It's longer and little tougher than last week, but we are a long-hitting team and that should play to our advantage. My hope is that we are paired with Denver, which is a top-15 team, to see how we stack up in comparison. We're ready to get out there and compete."
