After closing Thursday's workout with a closed scrimmage, Baylor head football coach Art Briles let out a deep sigh of relief.

Another practice, another injury-free day.

"We stayed injury-free, and now we're into game week and it's upon us," Briles said. "All the talk, the wonder, is now reality. We're ready. We've got guys game-ready, so that's the part that makes me feel good."

The No. 1 offense definitely looked game-ready, scoring two touchdowns on two of its first three series and then capping the scoring with a 32-yard field goal by sophomore kicker Ben Parks out of a hurry-up offense.

"I thought it was good energy," Briles said. "We worked out before and then had the scrimmage later. And I thought when we got to the scrimmage part, the energy was real good. I was proud of the way we responded and jumped around and played hard for each other. I thought we got a lot of good done. We'll look at the tape tonight, but I feel like we progressed. And that's the main thing right now."

Sophomore quarterback Robert Griffin was nearly perfect, hitting 11 of 15 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

After going three-and-out on its first series, the first-team offense marched 70 yards in just seven plays. Griffin was 4-for-4 on the drive, capping it with a 44-yard TD strike to a leaping Kendall Wright over the coverage of freshman safety Anthony Moore.

Before that, the third-team offense scored a pair of touchdowns on an eight-yard pass from Brody Trahan to Logan Allison and a one-yard run by Caleb McEachern. The second-team offense did manage one score on the No. 1 defense, when senior Blake Szymanski led an 11-play, 75-yard drive that included three third-down conversions.

Jarred Salubi turned a short pass in the flat into a 12-yard gain when he changed directions and went all the way back across the field, and then junior running back Terrance Ganaway scored on a 20-yard TD pass from Szymanski, who was 9-of-13 for 101 yards with one interception.

After another score by the third-team unit, Griffin led a six-play, 80-yard drive and finished it with a 20-yard TD toss to David Gettis, who hauled in three catches for 29 yards.

Ganaway was the leading rusher with 32 yards on just five carries, while freshman running backs Glasco Martin and McEachern combined for 51 yards on 10 attempts with the No. 3 offense. In the battle for third-team QB, Trahan was 4-of-8 for 86 yards and one TD and also scored on a five-yard run, while Nick Florence was 5-of-7 for 23 yards.

Wright was tops among the first- and second-team units, hauling in three catches for 59 yards. But the leading receiver for the day was sophomore Stacy Williams with four catches for 83 yards.

Senior strong safety Jeremy Williams led the defense with six tackles and an interception. Linebacker LeQuince McCall had five tackles to lead the No. 3 defense, while first-team linebackers Antonio Johnson and Joe Pawelek each had four stops.

The Bears will focus on strength and conditioning on Friday before resuming workouts for the Sept. 5 season opener at Wake Forest, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m. CDT.

"Sunday's when we really start doing it for real," Briles said. "We're on game week, and it's time to put it on the table."
