HOUSTON - Despite a two hour lightning delay, Baylor (0-0-1) and Rice (0-0-1) found the energy to play 110 minutes, finishing in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes at the Track/Soccer Stadium on the campus of Rice University.

"The team played very well and both teams had good opportunities," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We have a lot of work to do, but I was very pleased with some of the things I saw today."

Baylor got on the board in the 18th minute when freshman Hanna Gilmore broke free, and after a collision at the 18 yard box, the ball settled at Lotto Smith's feet, who then knocked it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Rice evened the game in the 49th minute on a header from Erin Scott to tie the game at one apiece.

Baylor nearly got the game-winner in the 89th minute, but Gilmore's shot was saved by Meghan Erkel to force overtime.

The Bears outshot the Owls in each of the first two periods of play, as BU totaled 22 shots to Rice's 12 in the first 90 minutes.

Rice managed four shots in the two overtimes, as Baylor got off just one. Baylor's 24 shots in the game were the most since Sept. 7, 2009 when the Bears fired off 38 versus Prairie View A&M.

Freshman Dana Larsen led the way with seven shots, two on goal, while Smith fired off six shots, placing two on target.

The Bears will be back in action on Sunday for its home opener against Lamar at 1:00 p.m. Sunday will be Kids Free Sunday, as all children 12 and under will receive free admission. In addition, all hot dogs will be just $1.
