NCAA Championships Round One Results in PDF Format

TOLEDO, Ohio - Baylor men's golf sophomore Cody Paladino shot an opening-round 5-over 76 Tuesday at the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships at the Inverness Club. Paladino, one of six individuals to earn a spot in the 156-golfer field, is seven strokes behind the leader and tied for 75th place overall.

Paladino will tee off Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. CDT from the first tee. Thursday's final-round pairings will be determined after Wednesday's round is complete.

Oklahoma State and Georgia are tied for the team lead at 4-over 288. Illinois' Scott Langley, North Carolina State's Matt Hill and Northwestern's Jonathan Bowers are in a three-way tie for the leader after an opening-round 2-under 69. Only eight golfers finished Tuesday under par.

"Cody played pretty well today," Baylor head men's golf coach Greg Priest said. "He started off with a double-bogey, which put him behind the eight ball right away. But, he made some pars, had a short eagle putt that lipped out on 13 before making the turn at 4-over."

After making the turn at 4-over, the Kensington, Conn., native was 1-over par on the final nine holes. Paladino carded a double-bogey on the par-4 10th hole, quickly falling to 2-over through one hole.

He narrowly missed an eagle putt on No. 13, but pulled back to even-par with a birdie. Paladino closed the back half of the front nine with bogeys on three of the final five holes for a 4-over score.

"He had a good look at birdie on hole No. 1 before he made par," Priest said. "The No. 3 hole was a hard par-3. He hit in the water and ended up with a double-bogey. Then he three-putted from 12 feet on No. 4."

Following a par on the par-4 first hole, Paladino recorded a double-bogey on the par-3 No. 3 and a bogey on the par-4 No. 4. He birdied No. 5 and pared out the final four holes to finish the day at 5-over 76.

"Cody played pretty solid there on out," Priest said. "He hit the ball pretty well, but he made some mistakes, put the ball in some wrong spots and paid for those four or five bad shots."
