WACO, Texas - Juniors Trey Harts and Erin Bedell were named the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Male and Female Athletes of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. Both athletes earn their first-career weekly awards.

Harts posted three NCAA Regional qualifying marks and one collegiate-leading time at the Michael Johnson Classic. Harts cruised to a time of 20.29 in the 200 meters, the fastest time in the nation this season and the second-fastest time in the world this year. The time broke the Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex record of 20.41 set by Michael Johnson in 1987. He also won the 100 meters with a regional time of 10.39, and anchored the Baylor 4x100-meter relay to a time of 39.26, to finish in second place behind a team of elite professionals.

Bedell clocked a time of 4:16.03 to win the women's 1,500 meters. The time ranks as the second-fastest time in the nation this season. She also set a new Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex record, breaking the old mark of 4:16.87, set by Oklahoma's Kelley Cathy in 1982. Bedell had to race completely by herself as she outran the second-place finisher by 19 seconds.

Baylor returns to action this weekend as the Bears travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the 100th Drake Relays.
