WACO, Texas - Baylor's Danielle Wilson garnered All-American honors from the Associated Press on Wednesday, as she was named an honorable mention selection. Wilson's selection marks the fifth straight season, and sixth all-told, that a Lady Bear player had been honored by the AP.
Wilson, a 6-3 post, saw her junior year cut short by a season-ending knee injury and missed the final eight games of the Lady Bear season. The Bay Shore, N.Y., native led the team in both scoring and rebounding at 15.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a contest. In addition, she accounted for over half of the team's blocked shots with 83 to her credit. She ranked No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 8 nationally in blocked shots at 3.1 a game. Wilson was among the Big 12 Conference leaders in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage as well.
She was a Wooden Award nominee, as well as a Naismith Trophy contender and was a WBCA All-Region selection. Wilson also earned All-Big 12 first team honors and was named to the league's All-Defensive team.
Wilson becomes the seventh Baylor player to earn AP All-America honors, Sophia Young was a first-team selection in 2006 after being named to the second squad in 2005, Steffanie Blackmon was a third-team pick in 2005 while Danielle Crockrom (2002), Bernice Mosby (2007), Rachel Allison (2008) and Angela Tisdale (2008) were all honorable mention selections.
