WACO, Texas - Art Briles put his Baylor football team through spring practice No. 11 Thursday at the Highers Complex practice fields, a two-and-a-half hour session in full pads. After two days of wet weather, the Bears practiced under afternoon sunshine at their new on-campus facility.
Baylor is scheduled to finish up its third week of drills Saturday with a two-hour scrimmage beginning at 10 a.m. The scrimmage is open to the public.
The Bears will conclude spring drills Thursday, April 2, with a controlled scrimmage presented by Time Warner Cable. The scrimmage and all spring workouts take place at the Highers Complex fields located behind the Simpson Center on University Parks Drive.
All workouts are open to the public, and fans interested in practice times can contact the football office at 254-710-3058. Remaining spring practice dates are scheduled for March 28,30,31 and April 2.
NOTES: Sophomore-to-be wide receiver Kendall Wright is back with football team after spending three and a half months with Baylor's basketball team... Three Bears are sidelined for the remainder of spring drills due to injury: IR V.J. McElroy (abdominal muscle strain), CB Clifton Odom (fractured right arm) and S T.J. Scranton (left knee ligament strain)... Baylor's two most recent All-Americans were at Thursday's workout: in addition to soon-to-be NFL draftee Jason Smith (who is helping to mentor JC transfer tackle Danny Watkins), Pittsburgh Steelers punter Daniel Sepulveda was on campus taking in the Bears' practice... Baylor's program was rated No. 1 among "Five programs on the rise" by newsday.com's spring football blog Wednesday.
