Track and Field Adds Two More Signees

WACO, Texas - The Baylor track and field team signed two more student-athletes, including the current national leader in both hurdle events, to National Letters of Intent as the spring signing period continues, head coach Todd Harbour announced on Thursday.

"We are extremely pleased to add these two outstanding athletes who have chosen to become Baylor Bears," said Harbour. "We expect both of these newest additions to be able to come in and compete immediately next season. It is exciting any time you can add a national leader in any event. Christina will also give us another option with our relays. Tyler is a tremendous middle distance runner from New York who will bring a lot of experience to our team. We are really excited to have both of them."

2008 TAPPS 4A state champion in cross country as a high school senior...Finished 13th at the 2008 Foot Locker South meet...Also placed 13th at the Nike South Cross Country meet...Holds personal best times of 17:47 in the 5,000 meters.

Harbour on Barry: "Katie is a super young lady and had an outstanding fall cross-country season. She is looking forward to the challenges of running in the Big 12 and will have a great chance to have an immediate impact on our cross-country team this upcoming fall."

Chance Casey
Two-sport Baylor commitment...Will also play football for head coach Art Briles...Ranks as the No. 2 returning 110-meter hurdler in the nation...Also the second-ranked hurdler in the United State in the 300- and 400-meter hurdles entering the 2009 season...Two-time Texas 4A state champion as a junior...Won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.87 and took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 36.32...Placed seventh overall in the high jump at 6-02...Clocked a personal best time of 51.07 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish second overall at Nike Outdoor Nationals...Also ran personal best of 13.80 in the 110-meter hurdles at Nike Outdoor Nationals...Holds personal best times of 13.80 in the 110-meter hurdles, 36.32 in the 300-meter hurdles, 51.07 in the 400-meter hurdles and 6-08 in the high jump.

Harbour on Casey: "Chance has signed with our football team, but plans on running track as well in the spring. He is a super young man and proved himself to be one of the top hurdlers in the country last season. He won both the 110 and 300 hurdles at the 4A State meet last spring. He has the potential to do some exciting things this year in both hurdle races."

2009 high school national leader in the 300-meter hurdles at 42.54 and in the 100-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.87 €¦Won 2009 Texas Relays titles in both hurdle events €¦In 2008, won regional 4-5A titles in the 300-meter hurdles €¦Placed fifth in the Texas 5A state meet in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Harbour on Holland: "We have been waiting to add one more on the ladies' side and Christina was the perfect fit. She has wanted to come to Baylor for some time. When you get a national leader it is really saying something. She will help tremendously with our hurdles and our relays."

Brittany Koziara
2008 Florida 4A state champion in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:52.64...Finished third at the state meet as a junior in the 3,200 meters in 11:04.45...A 2007 Foot Locker National Finalist...Finished fourth overall at the 2007 Foot Locker South Regional...Placed sixth at the state cross country meet as a senior...Took third overall at the Florida state cross country meet during her junior year...Holds personal best times of 2:13.13 in the 800 meters, 4:52.64 in the 1,600 meters, 4:53.73 in the mile, 10:03.64 in the 3,000 meters, 10:36.14 in the 3,200 meters and 16:59.00 in the 5,000 meters.

Harbour on Koziara: "Brittany is another outstanding young lady who will be an immediate presence on both our cross-country team as well as our track team. She is the 5A Florida State champ in the 1,600 and has great range from 800 meters to 5,000."

Stephanie Morgan
Recorded the No. 1 mile time in the United States as a junior with a time of 4:41.22...Two-time Ohio state champion in cross country, and six-time state champion in track...2007 Footlocker Finalist in cross country...Won the 2008 Nike Cross Nationals Midwest Regional with a time of 18:00.90 over 5,000 meters, breaking the course record...Took 16th overall at Nike Cross Nationals...2008 Ohio Gatorade Athlete of the Year in both track and cross country...2008 Penn Relays mile champion, setting a new Penn Relays record of 4:42.22...Holds personal best times of 2:07 in the 800 meters, 4:21.52 in the 1,500 meters, 10:36.57 in the 3,200 meters and 17:27.36 in the 5,000 meters.

Harbour on Morgan: "Stephanie was one of one of the top middle distance runners in the nation last year and she has a pretty nice record in the fall as well. She will join a talented group already on campus and will make us that much stronger next year."

Tyler Stewart
During the 2009 indoor season, clocked 1:52.15 in the 800 meters to finish at the runner-up at the National Indoor Scholastic Championships €¦As a junior, was named a two-time All-American €¦Placed third in the 1,000 meters and fourth in the 4x800-meter relay at the New York Indoor State Championships €¦Anchored his sprint medley relay team to a second-place finish at the National Indoor Scholastic Championships, while his 4x800-meter relay finished sixth overall €¦Took fourth place in the 4x400-meter relay and fifth in the 4x800-meter relay at the New York Outdoor State Championships €¦Also holds personal-best times of 1:05.59 in the 500 meters, 1:20.76 in the 600 meters, 1:52.15 in the 800 meters, 2:29.74 in the 1,000 meters, 4:21.88 in the mile and 17:29.80 in the 5,000 meters.

Harbour on Stewart: "Tyler is the type of runner who can come in and help us out right away. He helps us to reestablish our middle distance program which is something we have wanted to do for a long time. He has a lot of range to run from 800 meters up and has a lot of relay experience."

Caitlin Waters
Two-time New Mexico state champion in the 800 meters...Won the 800 meters as a junior with a personal-best time of 2:16.85...Helped mile relay to third-place finish at the state meet as a junior...Won the 800 meters state title as a sophomore in 2:17.72...As a freshman, finished second in the state meet in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.69...Led team to the 4x800-meter relay title at the 2006 Greater Southwest track meet, setting a new meet record...Holds personal best times of 59.84 in the 400 meters, 2:16.85 in the 800 meters and 18:03.00 in the 5,000 meters.

Harbour on Waters: "Caitlin is a very tough young lady who has won two state championships in New Mexico and has also run well in cross country season in the fall. She came in on the last weekend before signing day, and we are excited that she has chosen to call Baylor home."

Skylar White
Ranked No. 3 in the United States in the discus as a junior...Also ranks No. 14 in the nation in the shot put...Four-time Texas 5A state champion in throws...2008 Texas 5A state champion in the shot put with a mark of 46-05 ¼...Also won the state title in the discus with a toss of 154-06...Named the 2008 Girls All-Area Track and Field Athlete of the Year by the Dallas Morning News...Won the Region 1-5A meet in the shot put and the discus...As a sophomore, won the state title in the discus with a mark of 138-02 and also won the shot put with a mark of 45-08 ¼...Holds personal best marks of 46-08 ½ in the shot put and 163-11 in the discus.

Harbour on White: "Skylar has established herself as one of the top throwers to come out of the state in some time. She is a super young lady that will join her former teammate from DeSoto, Diamond Richardson."

Elizabeth Whitney
Won the 4A state title in the 800 meters as a junior with a time of 2:15.32...Took third place in the 400 meters at the state meet...2008 UIL regional champion in the 400 meters...As a junior, finished second at the state cross country meet...Nike Outdoor National participant as a junior...As a sophomore, finished second at the state meet in the 800 meters in 2:12.26, took third in the 400 meters with a time of 55.38 and placed third in the high jump with a mark of 5-04...Holds personal bests of 55.38 in the 400 meters, 2:12.26 in the 800 meters, 5-04 in the high jump and 18-02 in the long jump.

Harbour on Whitney: "Lizzy is one of the best multi prospects in the country. She has an outstanding 800, long jump and high jump already and we feel like she will be able to help us in many areas. She has had a desire to come to Baylor for a long time, so we were excited that the reality is finally here."
