ORLANDO, Fla. - The Baylor men's golf team is in eighth place at 10-over 586 - five strokes out of fifth - after two rounds at the Rio Pinar Invitational Monday.
Host UCF leads the field at 5-under 571, followed by Louisville in second place at 1-under 575. Vanderbilt and UT Arlington are tied for third at 1-over 577, while Augusta State rounds out the top five at 5-over 581.
UCF's Blayne Barber is the leader among individuals after shooting a 9-under 135, including an 8-under 64 in the second round.
Baylor freshman Joakim Mikkelsen is tied for 18th overall at 1-over 145 - the lowest score for a Bear on the first day. Sophomore Cody Paladino carded a 2-over 146 and is tied for 24th, while Bill Allcorn is tied for 41st place at 4-over 148. Redshirt freshman Lorenzo Scotto and true freshman Morten Bergan round out the Baylor group, in 56th and 67th place, respectively.
Bergan, the newest addition to the Bears lineup, made his collegiate debut Monday, but did not fare well in the opening round. The freshman fired a 7-over 79 in the first round, but managed to card a 1-over 73 on the second 18.
Baylor struggled in the first round, shooting a combined 9-over 297. Allcorn was the lone Bear to shoot at or below par, carding an even-par 72. In the second round, Baylor managed to gain ground in the standings after a 1-over 289. Both Mikkelsen and Paladino shot under par in the second round with a 71 and 69, respectively.
The final round of the Rio Pinar Invitational tees off at 7:30 a.m. CT Tuesday. Final round results will be available online at BaylorBears.com, the official site of Baylor Bears athletics.
