After a 38-3 loss to Texas A&M Saturday afternoon, Art Briles and the Baylor football team will wrap up the 2009 season with an in-state tilt against Texas Tech, Saturday, at Cowboy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and will be televised on FSN.
Here are Briles' thoughts on Baylor's loss to A&M and the upcoming matchup against the Red Raiders of Texas Tech:
On shifting the focus from Texas A&M to Texas Tech...
"We basically just talked about finishing strong and making sure that we kept the same attitude and belief that we have had all year so I don't see any of that changing in the next six days while we prepare for Texas Tech."
On gearing up for Texas Tech...
"We will be ready to roll. To us, this is our bowl game. We are playing at a neutral site and it is going to be a great atmosphere with a chance for our seniors to go out with a good taste in their mouth. That is our purpose and that is our plan because we want them to feel good about their experience at Baylor playing football. We want our fans to be proud."
On preparing for the final game of the season...
"First of all we are anxious to get back on the field. We certainly don't feel like yesterday was a true representation of our football team. That is our driving force right now aside from the big venue and playing in the Metroplex."
On failing to establish momentum against Texas A&M...
"Teams build momentum off of momentum. If the momentum is not good, it is hard to get good. If the momentum is good, it is easy to keep it going and get it better. (To build) momentum you make plays on both sides of the ball and special teams. We were not successful yesterday doing that."
On the Texas A&M running game...
"If you give up (rushing yards) in one big chunk it can certainly help the opponents rushing average in a hurry. They ran (Jerrod) Johnson a little more than what they had in previous weeks. Once again I think it falls back to the momentum of the football game. They were doing a good job of converting and making some plays and it seemed like we did a good job of moving the ball offensively but just not finishing drives. When you get down there you have to come away with points."
