STORY LINES
- The Baylor Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is holding its second canned food drive, fans bringing canned food items to the basketball game will receive a voucher at the Ferrell Center entrances redeemable for a $5.00 ticket at the ticket office.
- The Lady Bears are 18-2 all-time in Ferrell Center season openers, 9-0 under head coach Kim Mulkey.
- At No. 7, Baylor is ranked among the top 10 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll for the third time in program history.
- Baylor is 0-2 versus the Tennessee Tech, however, the two teams haven't met since the 1982-83 season.
- Three Lady Bears are averaging double-digit scoring. Junior guard Melissa Jones leads the team with 21.0 points a game while freshman post Brittney Griner tallies 15.0 and the team's lone senior, Morghan Medlock, is averaging a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
- Ten Lady Bears played against eighth-ranked Tennessee and eight got on the scoreboard, including four of the team's five freshmen. - Both teams sport very young rosters, the Lady Bears have eight underclassmen while the Golden Eagles' entire 11-player roster is comprised of freshmen (7) and sophomores (4).
- Only two Baylor players, juniors Melissa Jones and Kelli Griffin, have two or more years in the Lady Bear system. Morghan Medlock, a senior, transferred last season from Southern California and junior Whitney Zachariason has half a season in the system after transferring from Arkansas. All the rest of the squad are freshmen and sophomores.
- BU freshman post Brittney Griner seeks to become just the seventh female to dunk in a regular-season NCAA contest. She is also a defensive threat as a shot blocker with her 88" wing span. §
- In 10 seasons under head coach Kim Mulkey, Baylor is 237-67 (.780), which ranks her No. 4 nationally in winning percentage. In addition, the Lady Bear program ranks No. 6 among the NCAA Division I's winningest teams over that span.

THE OPPONENT - TENNESSEE TECH
- The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles enter the Ferrell Center with a 1-1 mark after winning the consolation game of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi-hosted lslander Tip-Off Classic on Saturday. The Golden Eagles lost the opening game of the tournament to Alabama (73-68) before downing Air Force, 81-49.
- The win over Air Force gave first year head coach Sytia Messer her first career win. She is now 1-1 in her young head coaching career.
- Freshman Tacarra Hayes tallied 16 points against Air Force after posting 21 against Alabama. She was named to the Classic's All-Tournament team.
- The Golden Eagles are a young team comprised entirely of freshmen and sophomores. Their 11-player roster lists seven freshmen and four sophomores. Two players hail from the Lone Star state, freshman Katy Cooke is from Marble Falls, Texas, while sophomore Krystal Stirrup is from San Antonio's MacArthur High School.
- Hayes leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. Freshman guard Kellie Cook scores 15.5 an outing while her twin sister, Kylie Cook, a forward, manages 12.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a contest.

SERIES RECORD
- Tennessee Tech holds a 2-0 series lead over Baylor although the two squads haven't met since 1982. The Golden Eagles downed Baylor, 89-78, on March 27, 1976, in the AIAW National Tournament in State College, Pa. Tennessee Tech's other victory came on Nov. 27, 1982, on its home court, 69-67, as part of the school's Tip Off Tournament.

VERSUS THE OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE
- Baylor owns a 6-2 record against Ohio Valley Conference teams, its lone two losses coming to Tennessee Tech. The Lady Bears have two wins over Southeast Missouri and single victories over Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State and Tennessee State.
