After finishing its non-conference schedule with a 31-15 win over Kent State, Baylor now turns its attention to Big 12 play as the Bears take on No. 19 Oklahoma Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The game will be regionally televised by ABC.
Here are Art Briles' Sunday thoughts on the Bears' victory over Kent State as well as Saturday's upcoming Big 12 opener against the Sooners.
On last nights game...
"We are certainly not where we need to be without a doubt. For all the good the good that came out of last night, there is still a lot of growth left. We just have to keep growing. On the flipside, our offense needs to do a good job and keep our defense off of the field."
On Nick Florence...
"I think he played admirably. I thought he did what he had to do as far as ball protection and giving us an opportunity to win the football game. From that standpoint, his game management was really good. He did what we asked him to do and that is all that you can ask of a player. We felt like he would be successful doing the things that were asked of him last night and he did. We knew his intelligence level was good and that his field-awareness was good and he has enough instinct in him to know what needs to be done when it needs to be done."
On the team effort against Kent State...
"Our whole team rallied up and we did a good job of picking each other and playing for each other. That is one thing we talked about. There is a big difference playing with somebody and playing for somebody. We did a great job as a team playing for each other. Our receivers specifically did a good job of blocking last night."
On playing Oklahoma this week...
"We know where we live and we know what we need to do if we want to be successful and that is to take care of business in the south division first and foremost. That is where we are at and that's what we will do. From what I am reading through the media, it sounds like Sam (Bradford) is getting better. I think he was close to being ready last week so there is probably a good chance that he will see action against us."
On the running game...
"(The running game) was sporadic. It is an area that we really need to improve on. We knew there would be some of that but we felt like when you have to run the football and you need to run the football you have got to be able to run the football effectively. That was not always the case last night."
