INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee has selected Baylor as one of its first- and second-round host sites for the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship it was announced today. The sites have been approved by the Administrative Committee of the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet.

Waco is one of 16 cities selected to host first- and second-round games, the other cities include: Albuquerque, New Mexico; Auburn, Alabama; Charlottesville, Virginia; Cincinnati, Ohio; College Park, Maryland; Columbus, Ohio; Durham, North Carolina; Knoxville, Tennessee; Salt Lake City, Utah; Spokane, Washington; Shreveport, Louisiana; Stanford, California; Storrs, Connecticut; University Park, Pennsylvania; and Wichita, Kansas.

This will mark the second occasion for Baylor to serve as a host for NCAA Women's Basketball Championship games. The second-seeded Lady Bears hosted first- and second-round contests in 2002 and defeated Bucknell in the first round and were upset by Drake in the second round. That contest ranks as the Lady Bears' fourth-highest Ferrell Center crowd with 10,074 fans attending. In fact, the two games accounted for 19,918 of the program's 93,909 fans that season.

"We consider it a great privilege to host the NCAA opening round games. Baylor is blessed with the best women's basketball fans in the country and Lady Bear nation will fill the Ferrell Center to create an unparalleled experience for the participating teams," said Baylor Director of Athletics Ian McCaw.

Tickets for this event will go on sale next summer. 2009-10 Lady Bear season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to purchase seats before tickets go on sale to the general public.
