IRVING, Texas - Junior Lotto Smith was named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a three-goal effort over the weekend that led the Bears to an undefeated road weekend, league officials announced Tuesday. Smith becomes the second Baylor player to win a conference award this season, as freshman Hanna Gilmore earned the same honor on Aug. 25.
"Lotto was fantastic this weekend," head coach Marci Jobson said. "She has really stepped up her play and been the type of go-to goal scorer that we need."
Smith scored three goals on three shots on goal for six points last weekend. She netted a goal in the Bears' 1-1 tie with Nebraska on Friday. Smith followed the performance with two more goals on Sunday, leading Baylor to a 3-1 victory against Iowa State. The junior forward had a .429 shooting percentage and scored three of the team's four goals on the weekend. Her efforts moved her into sixth place on Baylor's all-time scoring list as she leads the squad with seven goals and 15 points this season.
The award marked the first time since 2007 that the Bears have won two weekly conference awards, as Megan Sherrell was named Big 12 Player of the Week twice during the season.
Baylor will host a pair of conference games, welcoming Missouri on Oct. 16 at 7:00 p.m. then finishing the weekend with a match against Kansas on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1:00 p.m.
