FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Baylor athletes picked up collegiate wins in the men's and women's 60 meters and the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays on Saturday at the Razorback Invitational at the Randal Tyson Track Center. For the weekend, Baylor collected eight NCAA provisional qualifying marks.

"Today finished off a pretty good weekend at the track," said head coach Todd Harbour. "We started out a little slow, but finished up well. We got a lot of provisional times today, and we came away with even more big PRs (personal records)."

The men's 4x400-meter relay won its 31st-straight race by winning the event in a provisional time of 3:08.53, which ranks as the fastest time in the world this year.

Marcus Boyd got out of the blocks quickly on the first leg, but was in second place at the break to the rail. Boyd made his move on the second lap, putting distance between the second place team over the final 100 meters with a 47.1-seconds split. J.T. Scheuerman held the lead for the Bears, splitting 47.4 seconds on the second leg.

LeJerald Betters, seeing his first action of the season, took the stick for the third leg, splitting 46.3 seconds to widen the gap. Quentin Iglehart-Summers anchored the Bears with a 47.2-seconds split as the Bears won by nearly three full seconds.

The women's team defeated all other college participants in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing second to the Arkansas Track Club in 3:38.97 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA championships.

Katrina Taylor opened with a split of 55.3 seconds, making a move on the second backstretch to hand off in a tie for second place. Egle Uljas split 55.6 seconds on the second leg, but fell behind TCU into third place at the second exchange.

Tiffany Townsend, split 53.6 seconds to blow past the Flying Frogs into second place heading into the anchor leg. Diamond Richardson ran a 53.9-seconds split on the anchor leg to give Baylor its first provisional time since the 2007 season.

Townsend continued her strong weekend by winning the women's 60 meters with a provisional time of 7.32. Whitney Prevost led a Baylor 1-2 finish in the 60 meters, clocking 6.78, while Trey Harts finished second in 6.79.

Baylor swept the top three spots in the women's mile championship event, as Erin Bedell opened the 2009 season with a winning time of 4:46.05. Danielle Bradley took second in 4:47.16 , while Nichole Jones finished third in 4:47.19. All three times were NCAA provisional marks.

Chris Gowell clocked a collegiate-leading time of 1:49.84 to win the men's 800 meter championship. Coming through the final turn of the third lap, Gowell was clipped from behind and stumbled up the track into the fourth lane. He was able to regain his balance and pass the race leader on the backstretch of the fourth lap, pulling away from the field for the win.

Thaddeus Gordon broke his own school record in the triple jump, leaping 15.39 meters (50-06) to finish eighth overall. The mark is just .01 meters from the NCAA provisional mark in the event.

Baylor will take a week off before returning to action at the 2009 New Balance Invitational at The Armory in New York City.
