Women's Tennis Presents Season Awards

WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's tennis team presented 2008 season awards at the pre-season banquet and awards ceremony on Tuesday night. The Lady Bears open the 2009 dual-match season on Jan. 31 as Baylor plays host to Princeton at the National Indoor Team Qualifier.

The Golden Bear Award, presented to the team member with the best combination of on-court success, academic excellence, spiritual development and leaving a positive legacy, was given to Zuzana Zemenova.

The Academic Excellence award was presented to Taylor Ormond, while the Strength and Conditioning award was given to Jana Bielikova.

Lenka Broosova was named the Most Valuable Player, and also was awarded the Most Improved Player as she rose from a No. 85 ranking to eighth overall nationally. She also improved from unranked to No. 2 overall in doubles play.

The Lady Bears return to action on Jan. 31 as Baylor plays host to Princeton at 1 p.m. The Lady Bears will then face either Virginia Tech or Iowa on Saturday, Feb. 1 in the second round of action.
