In a Davis Cup world dominated by 2008 semifinalists USA, Russia, Spain and Argentina, countries like Hungary and Greece are not even in the same league.
They're like Double-A teams in baseball that aren't even eligible for the World Series.
But for Baylor junior Denes Lukacs, playing for his native country of Hungary in the July 18-20 Davis Cup tie in Thessaloniki, Greece, is "like a dream come true." Even if it is just a playoff to stay in Group II of the Europe/Africa Zone.
"Just playing for my country, it's awesome," said Lukacs, who will join Davis Cup veteran Kornel Bardoczky on a team picked by captain Szabolcs Baranyi. "I'm real happy that they can count on me. It's a great opportunity for me to be around some of the best players in the country."
This is actually Lukacs' third Davis Cup appearance. He defeated Monaco's Thomas Druet, 6-4, 6-2, in a first-round match in 2005 and then lost to Bulgaria's Todor Enev, 6-3, 7-5, in a Group II second-round match in July 2006.
