Zemenova Reaches NCAA Semifinals

Zuzana Zemenova defeated fourth-ranked Maria Mosolova in straight sets on Saturday to move into the semifinals at the 2008 NCAA Women's Tennis Singles Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Lenka Broosova dropped her quarterfinal match to Amanda McDowell in straight sets.
Zemenova and Broosova were the only two of the eight remaining players not seeded in the NCAA Singles Championship.

This marks the third time that Zemenova has reached the NCAA Semifinals. As a freshman, she became the first unseeded player, and only the sixth freshman, in NCAA history to win the women's singles title. Last season, Zemenova advanced to the semifinals before falling to eventual singles champion Audra Cohen.
Broosova lost her quarterfinal match to seventh-ranked Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech, falling in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The win snaps Broosova's 22-match winning streak. She had not lost a singles match since March 11 when she dropped a three-set decision to Yvette Hyndman of
Broosova ends the best season in Baylor tennis history, having won a program record 52 matches on the season. Her overall record in singles play of 52-5 is five wins better than Zuzana Cerna's 47 in 2005-06, and three more wins than Benedikt Dorsch, who tallied 49 wins in 2002-03. Broosova earned All-Big 12 recognition this season, and was both a singles and doubles ITA All-American.
