The Baylor women's soccer team has begun play under the direction of new head coach Marci Jobson and her staff, as spring play is underway.

The Bears began the spring season at a 7 V 7 tournament in College Station, Texas, where the squad went 1-1-1. After an opening loss to North Texas, BU went on to beat UTSA, 2-1 and tie Texas A&M 1-1.

"It was a great chance for our staff to assess what our team's abilities are," head coach Marci Jobson said. "I was excited to see how we progressed throughout the tournament. The girls relaxed and we were able to introduce some new ideas."

Baylor then played SMU to a scoreless 0-0 tie.

"That was our first chance to see what our girls could do with 11 players on the field," Jobson said. "We had been working on our team and individual defense, and I thought that game was a great showing for our team."

Next up for the Bears is a tournament at Houston on March 29th where they face Rice at 12:30 p.m. and Houston at 5 p.m. Then, a match-up with Texas has been scheduled for April 9 at 8:30 p.m. at St. Stephen's in Austin.

"We have low numbers this spring, so a lot of people are getting a lot of minutes of playing time," Jobson said. "We are getting more organized and our fitness and strength are getting better. I think this spring is a great way for us to lay the foundation for the future of Baylor soccer."

Baylor will host its Play For Hope Tournament on April 12 with three games that day. BU will face Trinity at 9 a.m., TCU at 11 a.m. and Texas State at 3 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field. Following the last game, the team will hold a clinic from 4:30-6 p.m. with all proceeds going to the nonprofit DiscoverHope Fund, a service to create sustainability and opportunity for women in poverty.

There will also be a High School Spring Camp on Sunday, March 30 from 2-5 p.m. for girls ages 14-18. All information for camps can be found at www.baylor.edu/soccercamp.
