ST. THOMAS, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS - The sixth-ranked Baylor Lady Bears resume action in the Paradise Jam on Friday afternoon when they take on the Villanova Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. (CST) at St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands on the campus of the University of the Virgin Islands.
Baylor, 5-0, is coming off a 79-67 victory over the University of Central Florida while the Wildcats suffered a 47-45 loss to Wisconsin on Thursday.
The Lady Bears are led on the season by senior Rachel Allison's 17.6 points and 9.6 rebounds. Junior Danielle Wilson and senior Jhasmin Player each average 11.4 a game to complete Baylor's double-digit scorers. Wilson and sophomore Melissa Jones rank second on the team in rebounding at 7.6 each while junior Morghan Medlock checks in at 7.4 an outing.
Villanova, 2-2 on the season, features two players in double digits. Laura Kurz leads the way with 13.8 an outing and Maria Getty scored 11.0 a game. Kurz is the team leader in rebounding at 8.8 while Lisa Karcic pulls down 6.5 a game.
In Baylor's victory over UCF, three Lady Bears, Allison, Wilson and Player, scored in double figures en route to the victory over the Knights on Thursday.
Allison scored 18 points while added 12 points and Player had 11 for the 5-0 Lady Bears. In addition, four players, Wilson, Allison, Jones and Player, hauled down seven rebounds each.
Baylor led 24-20 with 6:54 left in the first half, Baylor went on a 20-7 run capped by Allison's three-point play a minute into the second half that gave the Bears a 44-27 advantage.
Central Florida would cut the deficit to 10 before Baylor put the game away with an 11-1 spurt.
