WACO, Texas - The fourth-ranked Baylor equestrian team crushed No. 2 Texas A&M 15-5, making it their first loss of the season.

The Lady Bears improved their series record against the Aggies to 2-5 overall, along with advancing to 3-5 in English and 1-9 in Western events. This competition marks the second home victory for Baylor against Texas A&M in four years, the previous win came on March 29, 2008 (10-6).

"If you look at the score sheet, we didn't blow them away, we won by one point here and one point there," head coach Ellen White said. "It was exactly like yesterday with Georgia, we weren't quite as focused as we needed to be. We rode just a little off our game, and that made us angry enough to get on our game today. Texas A&M rode well, we just rode better. The girls need to know it's doable, but they have to stay sharp."

The Lady Bears downed the Aggies 8-2 in Hunter Seat with a 4-1 victory in Equitation over Fences and on the Flat. Freshman Lisa Goldman (74-72) and Kara Fergusson (60-0) tallied points in fences, while veterans Kendra Vicary (68-67) and Nicole Brown (73-66) also added. Texas A&M's Kristi Waldal earned the MVP spot after her ride against freshman Anna Banks (76-55).

Senior Shelby White garnered MVP honors, for the second time this season, in the Flat with her defeat over Brittney Dodson 80-79. Juniors Mary Smitson (74-73) and Heather Healy (80-78) had winning rides over the Aggies, along with senior Cara Wilson (68-65).

Baylor proved to be successful in Western Horsemanship with another 4-1 win over the Aggies. Senior Nicole McCoy (73.5-72.5), juniors Lindsay Douglas (65.5-64.5) and Allison Orosz (73.5-70), and freshman Meghan Murphy (74-68) also posted points. Texas A&M recorded their second MVP honor for the competition with Caroline Gunn's winning ride over junior Lindsey Tomko 77.5-73.

The Aggies attempted to come back in Reining, but the Lady Bears edged ahead with a 3-2 victory. Senior Madelyn Mooney was named MVP after her defeat over Amanda Ryan 74-71, while senior Kim Marlowe had a season high ride of 74.5 points against Gina Fishgold. Sophomore Katie Buss also added points (73-71).

After today's defeat, Texas A&M dropped its record to 5-1. The Aggies next contest will take them to South Carolina on Jan. 31 at 10 a.m.

The Lady Bears will not compete again until Jan. 31 when they face Delaware and Southern Methodist.
