The sixth-ranked Baylor equestrian team suffered its first loss of the season after dropping a 15-9 decision to fifth-ranked Oklahoma State at the OSU Equestrian Center on Saturday. The loss drops Baylor's record to 4-1 while the Cowgirls are now 3-0. The loss follows a Baylor victory over Kansas State on Friday.

"I thought both teams really performed well on this road trip. Our freshmen, in both Hunter Seat and Western competition, all rode extremely well. Of course, everyone has something they can improve on and we will continue to work hard to improve," said head coach Ellen White.

After two events, Equitation Over Fences and Western Horsemanship, the match was knotted at 6-6. However, the Cowgirls posted a 4-1 Equitation on the Flat win and extended the lead with a 5-1 Western Reining triumph to secure the victory.

OSU posted a 7-5 margin over the Lady Bears in Hunter Seat competition. Senior Nicole Brown (Zionsville, Ind.), junior Heather Healy (Pasadena, Calif.) and freshman Kara Fergusson (Hillsboro, Ore.) all earned points in Fences for the Lady Bears. Brown posted the highest score of the event with a ride of 82. Brown downed Erin Prutow 82-74, while Healy posted an 80-72 victory over Hannah Beresford and Fergusson downed Devon Smithburg, 73-72. Freshman Lisa Goldman (Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) earned MVP honors in the event; she was the only Lady Bear to receive MVP honors in the competition. Healy was a double winner for Baylor as she also scored a point in Equitation on the Flat with a 63-52 win over Jaclyn Osterstock. Mary Smitson (Zionsville, Ind.), a junior, registered Baylor's other point as she out-rode Jen McLaughlin (62-59) as the Lady Bears were out-scored 4-2.

Riding to a 3-3 tie in Horsemanship, a trio of juniors, Lindsay Douglas (Issaquah, Wash.), Allison Orosz, (Salem, Ohio) and Lindsey Tomko (Canfield, Ohio) tallied Baylor's three points in the event. Douglas edged out Suzanne Randolph 72-71 while Orosz out-distanced Nichole Chirico 72.5-71.5 and Tomko sneaked out a 69.5-69 win over Leigha Stevenson. With her win in Reining, sophomore Katie Buss (Concrete, Wash.) remained undefeated this season and was the only Lady Bear to score in Reining, as the Lady Bears were out-pointed 5-1. Buss defeated Courtney Whitacre by one point, 71.5-70.5. In both Western events, OSU out-scored Baylor 8-4.

Baylor will return to the Willis Family Equestrian Center to host fourth-ranked South Carolina on Saturday, Oct. 25. Competition is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
