Filipiak Wins Opening Match at Midland Invitational

MIDLAND, Texas - Karolina Filipiak won her opening match at the Midland Invitational on Friday afternoon. Zuzana Chmelarova and Kasia Siwosz lost their Friday matches in their first action of the season.

Filipiak, ranked No. 120 according to the latest rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated Natalie Leitch of Texas Tech 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the second round matchup after receiving a first-round bye.

Siwosz, the No. 1-ranked junior college player the last two seasons, lost a three-set match to Anastasia Dracheva of Miami (Ohio) by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 10-8. Chmelarova dropped her match to Samantha Van der Drift 6-1, 6-1.
