Baylor volleyball hits the road as the Bears travel to take part in the SMU/Radisson Invitational. Baylor will face Sam Houston State Friday at 1 p.m., and will then square off against Mississippi Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and SMU to close the match at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Sophomore outside hitter Katie Sanders leads Baylor with 4.67 kills per game. Earlier this season she recorded five-straight double-doubles, and has reached double-digits in kills in all seven matches. Sophomore middle blocker Anna Breyfogle is second on the team with 2.85 kills per game and leads the Bears with a .352 hitting percentage and 1.74 blocks per game. Earlier this week, Breyfogle was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week as she recorded 2.07 blocks per game in four matches last week. Sophomore setter Taylor Barnes is a preseason All-Big 12 selection and has run the Baylor offense to a hitting efficiency of .231 through seven matches. She also has recorded a team-high 14 service aces (0.52 sapg) including six against Texas State.
The Bears are 4-3 following a 3-0 win over Stephen F. Austin and losses to Mississippi State (3-2) and Oregon (3-0) last weekend at the Baylor Invitational. Breyfogle and freshman outside hitter Ashlie Christenson were named to the all-tournament team.
Baylor returns to action on Wednesday as the Bears open Big 12 action playing host to Iowa State at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
