SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Baylor women's cross country team placed eighth at the 52nd -annual Notre Dame Invitational on Friday afternoon.

Nichole Jones (Spring, Texas), who won her only other two races this season, led the way for the Lady Bears finishing 20th overall with a time of 17:26. Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas) finished 38th overall with a time of 17:43. Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.) placed 50th and Danielle Bradley (West Palm Beach, Fla.) took 62nd. Erin Bedell (Plano, Texas) finished out the scoring for Baylor in 65th place.

"We were a little off in our race today," said head coach Todd Harbour. "We had a tough race as a team; we went out a little fast and then couldn't hold on to it down the stretch. In a field like this every mistake is magnified."

Rice won the team title out of a field that included nine ranked teams, while Susan Kuijken of Florida State took individual medalist honors.

Jessi Barnes (Bentonville, Ark.) placed 74th overall and Leigh Ann Ganzar finished in 99th place.

The men's cross country team will compete tomorrow afternoon at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The Lady Bears return to action on October 13 at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
