WACO, Texas --- The Baylor soccer concludes its five-game road trip with a swing through California as the Bears take on Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State this weekend. The Bears will face Cal State Northridge on Friday, Sept. 14, at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude the trip with a match against Long Beach State on Sunday, Sept. 16, at 2:00 p.m.
"We have been playing well and are really looking forward to the trip," head coach George Van Linder said. "This will be a step up in competition from earlier in the season and this trip should give us a good indication of where we stand as we get ready for Big 12 Conference play."
Baylor enters the weekend riding a five-game unbeaten streak, its best start since 2002 and the second-best start in school history. The Bears are led by reigning Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week Megan Sherrell as the senior leads the team and the conference with 10 points on the season.
Lotto Smith and Beckah Brady lead the team with three goals apiece as the Bears look to extended its unbeaten streak to six.
Cal State Northridge enters with a record of 0-3-1 after battling to a scoreless tie with San Francisco before a 4-0 setback at the hands of Illinois at the UCLA Women's Cup. Salma Tarik leads the squad with a goal and five shots on the season.
Long Beach State enters with a record of 2-3 as the 49ers have lost three-straight, one-goal matches to nationally ranked opponents after a 1-0 setback against BYU earlier this week. The 49ers are led by Nikki Myers, who leads the team with three goals scored on the season.
The matches mark the first time in school history Baylor will face Cal State Northridge or Long Beach State as the Bears are making only their third trip to the state of California in school history.
Following the matches, Baylor will return home to face Iona on Friday, Sept. 21, at 7:00 p.m.
