Baylor has finalized its 2007-08 men's basketball schedule and released tipoff times and television information. The schedule is highlighted by a trip to the 2007 Paradise Jam tournament, a marquee game hosting former SWC foe Arkansas in Dallas, and a home contest against nationally ranked Washington State in the new Big 12/Pac 10 Hardwood Series.
Baylor will play in at least 17 televised contests in 2007-08, including at least five games on national TV against Washington State (Nov. 30, ESPNU), Iowa State (Jan. 12, ESPN Classic), Texas Tech (Feb. 6, ESPNU), Texas (Feb. 6, ESPN), Texas A&M (March 5, ESPN2) and potentially some Paradise Jam contests.
The Bears' 2007-08 schedule features up to 13 games against opponents that competed in the postseason last year.
In addition to its annual grueling 16 games of Big 12 Conference play, Baylor's schedule includes the toughest non-conference slate of games in recent memory including contests against Arkansas, South Carolina, Washington State, Wichita State and possible matchups against Notre Dame and or Georgia Tech in the Paradise Jam.
"We've put together what we consider to be a very tough schedule and we've done so for various reasons," head coach Scott Drew said, "the most important being to prepare us for our Big 12 season. Additionally we have several games that are very attractive for our fans."
An attractive slate of games at the Ferrell Center includes home matchups against Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and Washington State.
The trio of teams from the SEC (Arkansas, South Carolina) and Pac-10 (WSU) mark the first time a Baylor squad has scheduled three non-conference opponents from power conferences since the 1988-89 season. The potential of playing Notre Dame (Big East) and or Georgia Tech (ACC) in the Paradise Jam could raise that number to four or five power-conference opponents (the last time BU faced four in the regular season was '87-88 and five was in '70-71).
The Bears tip off the season Nov. 2 when they host Tarleton State in an exhibition game. The regular-season opener is Nov. 11 vs. Jackson State at the Ferrell Center.
Season tickets are on sale and cost between $110 and $230. Individual game tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth and go on sale on Oct. 8. Baylor's athletic ticket office numbers are 800-BAYLOR-U and 254-710-1000.
